York Stage Youth are proud to announce that we have been successful in securing the rights to perform the Billy Youth Theatre production Billy Elliot The Musical next June! To celebrate five successful years of Billy Elliot The Musical in the West End, Billy Youth Theatre have released the rights for selected youth groups to perform Billy Elliot in 2010.
Billy Elliot the Musical is a musical based on the hit 2000 film Billy Elliot. The music is bySir Elton John, and book and lyrics are by Lee Hall (who wrote the film's screenplay). The musical revolves around motherless Billy, who trades boxing gloves for ballet shoes. Set in the North East of England against the background of the historic 1984/85 miners' strike, Billy pursues his passion for dance in secret to avoid disapproval of his struggling family.
With The Grand Opera House providing a superb setting for what promises to be a spectacular show, the stage is set for Billy Elliot The Musical to take York by storm in June 2010! This youth production of Billy Elliot The Musical is open to all actors aged between 10-19 on March 19 2010.
